Manufacturers -- especially in energy-intensive and hazardous industries -- recognize the importance of Environment, Health & Safety initiatives, not just to meet growing regulatory burdens, but in driving business value too. There is no mistaking the awareness of EHS, but the same cannot always be said for execution. This is based on numerous factors, and typically it's largely due to "a pre-existing architecture of disparate and disconnected technology solutions and business processes for managing EHS initiatives," according to Greg Goodwin, in a summary analysis for LNS Research. "Besides lacking in scalability, having point solutions results in informational silos where the accuracy and timeliness of EHS information is compromised, and sub-optimal. Indeed, nearly 25% of manufacturers surveyed cite lack of collaboration as a major challenge to success."
However, he added that EHS professionals are taking an integrated approach to performance and sustainability management, with EHS solutions increasingly being deployed as part of a global suite of sustainability management software that connects and interoperates with other core enterprise applications.
