Diamond-tipped inserts

Optional PCD tips are available for Backdraft and Xpet inserts from Dapra Corp. (www.dapra.com). The company expects the life of the diamond-tipped inserts to be about 100 times that of TiAlN-coated inserts in most aluminum and graphite-milling applications.

PCD-tipped Backdraft inserts, for mold and die applications, are available in 0.500-in. and 0.750-in. diameters with both 0.0312-in. and 0.625-in. corner radii and a usable leg length of about 0.0625 in. Xpet inserts, for use with 90-degree square shoulder mills, are 0.62992-in. (16 mm) long with a 0.0312-in. corner radius and have a 0.125-in. usable leg length.
