Sandvik Coromant's CoroMill Plura Extra Long Ball Nose Endmill provides an extra long reach for machining flexibility.
Sandvik Coromant Co. (www.coromant.sandvik.com/us) has expanded its CoroMill Plura Line of endmills with the CoroMill Plura Extra Long Ball Nose Endmill. The carbide endmill is designed for long-reach applications, including finishing of hardened steel (greater than 47 HRc) dies and molds. The endmill is made of Sandvik Coromant's wear-resistant P10 grade for cutting demanding materials.
The company demonstrated the capabilities of the new endmill with a finely finished part cutto a depth of 4.5 mm (approximately 1.5 in.) in hardened steel at its headquarters in Sandvikken, Sweden. The part included thin walls and a broad — approximately 8 mm (0.315 in.) — shelf that led to the long-reach feature on the aerospace component.
The company said machining pre-hardened materials in a single setup with the CoroMill Plura reduces the number of process steps in an application to cut lead times by up to 50 percent.
The CoroMill Plura line is a combination of solid carbide tooling solutions designed for a variety of milling applications, including the tool and die and aerospace industries.
