The CITCO and Gardner Abrasives Operations of Cinetic Landis Grinding Corp. (www.gardnerabrasives.com) have announced an array of new grinding wheels for use with conventional or highspeed spindles. Included are Gardner's Black Magic disc wheels suitable for grinding a wide range of spring materials, CBN button wheels for high-speed dry grinding, superabrasive disk wheels for grinding hard or difficult-togrind materials including ceramics and custom-designed and engineered wheels using ceramic grain to increase wheel life and reduce dressing.
The Black Magic wheels feature a new bond material that incorporates induced porosity with internal lubricants. Gardner claims the Black Magic wheels outperformed a magnesite-bonded ceramic grain wheel by a 2:1 ratio when grinding stainless steel springs. Their new bonded CBN wheels feature multiple layers of CBN that Gardner says has better performance at 10,000 sfpm compared with single-layer electroplated CBN wheels and even better results at speeds of up to 24,000 sfpm.
