Hardinge Inc. (www.hardinge.com) says its new Plate and Cube Trunnion Rotary Systems can be loaded with collet blocks, or configured with clamping devices, or customized with a window-box fixture to allow four-sided part machining. Hardinge says the systems can help to increase production by loading a second plate or cube system that would be ready to mount when machining on the first setup is finished. In this way, multiple parts can be machined before tools are changed.

Plate and Cube Trunnions are made from free-machining steel that Hardinge says provides ease of use for milling, drilling and slotting while meeting individual setup requirements. Hardinge says the combination of a rugged bearing spindle indexer and a permanent robust bearing pillow block ensure rigid, accurate positioning. The Hardinge 5C, 16C and 3J Rotary Systems are programmable, fully automatic and can be connected to a variety of host machines.

Cube Trunnions are available for or with a Hardinge 16C/3J High-Precision Rotary System and provide four 4-in. by 19-in. (101.6-mm by 482.6-mm) mounting surfaces. The square tubing is designed to configured for highly productive, 2D work, and to take advantage of the 300 degree-per-second speed of the indexer.

Plate Trunnions are available for or with a Hardinge 5C or 16C/3J Rotary System. They have an adjustable, multi-position centerline to accommodate various part heights. 5C Plate Trunnions mount with collet-style face plates and have 1-in. by 5-in. by 12-in. (25.4-mm by 127.0-mm by 304.8-mm) two-sided mounting surfaces. A2-5 Plate Trunnions bolt onto the indexer's spindle nose and have 1-in. by 8-in. by 19-in. (25.4-mm by 203.2-mm by 482.6-mm) two-sided mounting surfaces. Hardinge 5C pneumatic, fail-safe collet blocks mount to the plate to accept collets, expanding collets or step chucks.
