Kennametal Inc. says its turning grade KC9105 can machine most steels at up to 40 percent higher speeds. The grade has a wear-resistant carbide substrate for edge toughness, and cobalt enrichment at the periphery for insert-edge security. It also has a chemical vapor deposition coating for wear and thermal resistance, and postcoat treatments to reduce chip hammering and built-up edges.
KC9105 inserts finish turn and medium machine all steel workpieces, including carbon, alloy, tool steels and ferritic, martensitic and precipitationhardened stainless steels. The inserts machine dry with long cuts or cut at high speeds with coolant. Automotive applications include transmission components, axles and gears and general-engineering applications include shafts, bearings and pump housings. www.kennametal.com
