The new Multi-Cut line of solid carbide roughing end mills from Emuge Corp. (www.emuge.com/multicut) are designed to cut a wide variety of materials such as cast iron, titanium, titanium alloys, and steel materials up to 44Rc hardness. The company said that its progressive edge profile and variable helix technology allow the tools to achieve material removal rates of five to ten times that of conventional end mills. For example, a 0.5-in. diameter tool machining P20 steel is capable of removing in excess of 20 cu in. of material per minute.

Multi-Cut Tools are made from micrograin carbide to provide high cutting performance and tool life. They feature variable flute spacing and pitch to minimize vibrations, even at high speeds and aggressive cutting depths. The tool's chip-breaker technology provides optimum chip evacuation and its roughing profile enables short-duration chip contact. A flattened shank design provides stability in tool clamping for enhanced process safety.

Three tool configurations are offered, including a short design for optimum stability in slotting operations and two long designs; one with extended flute lengths and another that has extended length shanks. Tools are available in diameter sizes from 4 mm to 20 mm and 0.125 in. to 1 in.
