Lockheed Martin Corp. drew a $3.37-billion modification to a previous U.S. Dept. of Defense contract, expanding the scope of logistics support for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter aircraft program. The update will cover one year of ground maintenance activities, “action request” solution, depot activities, automated logistics information system operations and maintenance, reliability and maintainability, supply-chain management, pilot training, maintainer training, and training system sustainment to support F-35 jets for the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, and Foreign Military Sales customers, and non-Department of Defense (DOD) program partners.
The F-35 is a series of fighter jets deployed for ground attack and combat, and available in three variants, for three branches of the U.S. military and the defense forces of more than a dozen other nations. It is by far the largest and most expensive U.S. defense program, with hundreds of program participants and suppliers.
The range of work to be carried out by Lockheed under the terms of the modification will be carried out in Fort Worth, Tex., Orlando, Fla., Greenville, S.C., Marietta, Ga., and Palmdale, Calif.
The terms of the modification will be completed in December 2025.
Separately, Lockheed was awarded a $335.7-million modification to a previously awarded DOD contract for F-35 program management, including non-recurring engineering, aircraft induction, contractor field, depot site, and laser-shock peening site support, as well as procurement for associated material modification kits and special test/tooling equipment for calendar year 2025 modification and retrofit activities for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program.
As with the terms of the logistics award, the program management services covered by this modification will be completed in December 2025.
