High-power, high-performance systems selected for new private aircraft models G500 and G600 unveiled PW800 built in Quebec FAA certification pending

Pratt & Whitney Canada will supply its PurePower PW800 engines to Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. to power the latter’s new Gulfstream G500 and G600 business jets, two new models that the aircraft builder introduced this week. The new aircraft were launched with the promise of more speed, wider cabins, and performance efficiency, with advanced safety features, for the increasingly competitive private aircraft sector.

Production volumes and other details of the contract were not released.

The PurePower PW800 is a 10,000- to 20,000-lb thrust turbofan engine has previously been chosen to power the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) and the Bombardier CSeries mainline aircraft. It was developed and designed for the long-range business jet market, according to details supplied by Pratt & Whitney Canada.

The PW800 will be assembled and tested at P&WC's Mirabel Aerospace Centre in Quebec.

FAA certification is expected before the end of this year for the PurePower PW814GA and PW815GA engines.

According to Gulfstream, the G500 has a range of 5,000 nautical miles/9,260 km at Mach 0.85, or 3,800 nm/7,038 km at Mach 0.90. The G600’s range is 6,200 nm/11,482 km at Mach 0.85 or 4,800 nm/8,890 km at Mach 0.90. The maximum operating speed for both aircraft is Mach 0.925, the same speed as Gulfstream's G650 and G650ER.

"Gulfstream has once again raised the world standard in aircraft performance and design with the launch of the G500 and G600 business jets and we are thrilled to be its power plant supplier of choice," stated John Saabas, president, P&WC. "Along with its demonstrated core technology, the PurePower PW800 engine is built with the same innovative design philosophy and outstanding dependability for which Pratt & Whitney engines are renowned."
