June 2, 2011
Ultra-high resolution, PoE, and OCR among improvements

The Simatic MV440 1D/2D has 1,600 x 1,200-pixel resolution and captures up to 150 codes simultaneously.

Siemens Industry Inc. reports its line of Simatic® MV440 1D/2D code reading systems has been improved with a series new features that includes ultra high resolution, Power over Ethernet (PoE), Veri-Genius code marking verification, and Profinet IO device replacement.

Now available with 1,600 x 1,200-pixel resolution, the MV440 reader presents a wide field of view and captures up to 150 codes simultaneously. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Text Genius expands the functional scope of the reader with text recognition.

PoE enables power, picture data and time-critical data to be transmitted over a shared cable, reducing wiring hardware and installation costs. And, the Siemens Scalance X108 PoE/X308-2M and PoE/XR324-4M PoE industrial Ethernet switches will draw power from the Ethernet cable.

The MV440 reader features Veri-Genius that automatically verifies code-marking quality. Existing readers can be upgraded with Veri-Genius with Simatic Automation License Manager. The MV440 also offers a Profinet IO device replacement function that allows the reader to be removed and replaced, easily and quickly, minimizing configuration and lowering plant maintenance costs and downtime.
