Machine tool builder Tornos S.A. has made a strategic alliance with Hydromat Inc., a manufacturer of rotary-transfer systems based in St. Louis. Hydromat will exclusively represent Tornos' line of multispindle lathes in North America, handling all sales and service functions.
According to Raymond Stauffer, chief executive officer of Tornos S.A., recent success of the company's Deco CNC Swiss-type, single-spindle machines drove the decision to allow Tornos U.S. to focus solely on developing and supporting the single-spindle customer base. For Hydromat, the alliance will strengthen and expand that company's scope of providing the best manufacturing solutions for each specific application.
In other Tornos news, Scott Kowalski, former vice president of sales with the Agie Charmilles EDM Group, takes the helm as president of Tornos U.S. Also, Tornos will open a new technical center in the Midwest to improve its competitive advantage and responsiveness to its customers.
