The Eurojet Turbo consortium is set to supply 59 new EJ200 engines to the Spanish Air Force for its fleet of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. Based on the reported cost for the EJ200, the contract has an estimated value of $245 million based on the reported cost of the EJ200.
Deliveries will begin in 2029.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a European multinational twin-engine, supersonic multirole fighter jet also designed and manufactured by a consortium, of Airbus, BAE Systems, and Leonardo.
The consortium of Rolls-Royce, MTU Aero Engines, ITP Aero and Avio Aero developed the low-bypass turbofan engine, reportedly based on a Rolls-Royce demonstrator engine. Rolls-Royce reported it will have a “pivotal role” in producing the engines, to fulfill the requirements of the Spanish Air Force, though engine assembly will take place at the ITP Aero plant in Ajalvir, Spain.
According to Rolls-Royce Director of UK & International Mature Programs Chris Davie, “we are proud to contribute to the Eurojet consortium with the EJ200 representing outstanding and innovative capabilities that ensures our allies maintain their operational edge.
“This new contract reflects the confidence placed in our technology and reinforces our commitment to innovation, partnership and supporting operational readiness for modern air forces,” Davie concluded.
