The U.S. Navy assigned a $329-million fixed-price contract to Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for procurement of 175 medium-caliber cannon turrets, for the upcoming production lots (5 and 6) of the Amphibious Combat Vehicles (ACV-30), for the U.S. Marine Corps.
The ACV-30 is a BAE Systems-built amphibious vehicle designed to deploy U.S. Marines from ship to shore. It is an 8x8 platform with open-ocean capability, land mobility, survivability, and payload functionality, to accommodate operational requirements of the USMC.
Kongsberg is a Norwegian technology group that develops and manufactures systems for defense, space, and energy sectors. Its Protector RT20 is a lightweight turret system that can be remotely controlled and operated from within the ACV-30, for crew safety. And it can automatically perform ballistic computations to simplify targeting.
The procurement order covers program management support; tooling development; associated turret hardware, interfaces and software; logistics management information data development; training materials development; technical manual development; and field service representative and training support for integration and fielding.
The Pentagon’s announcement noted that work will be performed in Johnstown, Penn., with an expected completion date of June 4, 2028.
