EL AL Modernizing with New 737 MAX Order

Aug. 16, 2024
Boeing will supply as many as 31 narrowbody jets worth up to $2.5 billion as the Israeli flag carrier expands its fleet and adds seating capacity.

EL AL Israel Airlines is acquiring up to 31 new Boeing 737 MAX jets as it begins the process of renewing its narrow-body aircraft fleet. The order calls for 20 737 MAX 9 jets, estimated at $1.5 billion, and it includes purchase options for 11 more of the same models, pushing the potential value to $2.5 billion.

Boeing noted that the order will be the largest in the airline’s 76-year history.

"EL AL has a central role in ensuring open skies for Israel,” according to CEO Dina Ben-Tal Ganancia. “The implementation of our strategic plan - which aims to expand the fleet, increase the value proposition for customers and increase capacity and seating - will ensure a strong and growing company for many years to come."

The 737 MAX order follows EL AL's purchase of three 787-9 Dreamliner widebody jets earlier this year, taking options for six more.

Reportedly, deliveries for the new 737 MAX jets will begin in 2028.
