Navistar Wins Tax Credits for Plant Expansion

Truck builder to add production line, 300 new jobs at Springfield Assembly Plant in Ohio 60%, six-year income tax credit Project cost, schedule not confirmed Class 8, medium-duty trucks

Local and state officials in Ohio report Navistar will install a second production line at its Springfield Assembly Plant, which may mean as many 300 new jobs at that operation. The commercial vehicle and engine manufacturer has not made any statement on the project. The cost and schedule of the expansion project have not been confirmed.

The Springfield Assembly Plant produces Navistar’s International® brand ProStar+® and TranStar Class 8 trucks; DuraStar® and TerraStar® medium-duty trucks; and WorkStar® severe-duty trucks

Navistar currently employs about 1,500 at the Springfield operation.

A release by Ohio Governor John Kasich’s office announced that the Ohio Tax Credit Authority in its monthly business approved a tax incentive for Navistar to “create 300 full-time positions, generating $10.4 million in new annual payroll and retaining $38 million in existing payroll as a result of the company’s expansion project in the City of Springfield (Clark Co.)

The Tax Credit Authority noted that the capital investment would involve construction as well as the purchase of new equipment.

The TCA approved a 60%, six-year Job Creation Tax Credit for the project.

The TCA also said the proposed expansion would include the purchase of new equipment.
