Carrier Raises Order for Airbus A321neos

Oct. 7, 2021
Jet2.com, a low-cost UK airline, is acquiring a total of 51 new aircraft worth over $6 billion, as part of a fleet expansion.

Airbus reported it has a new contract for 15 A321neo aircraft from Jet2.com, the British airline that placed its initial order with Airbus in August for 36 of the same model jets. The low-cost carrier is conducting a fleet modernization and expansion, and now is due to receive a total of 51 A321neos.

Though unconfirmed, the total value for Airbus based on list prices could be $6.7 billion. No delivery schedule has been reported.

The A321neo is the “lengthened fuselage variant” of Airbus’ mid-range, narrow-body A320neo series, with capacity for 240 passengers, depending on configuration. Jet2.com will have its new aircraft configured for 232 seats.

Airbus offers two alternatives for powering the twin-engine jet under the New Engine Option (“neo”) implemented in 2016 to achieve a 15-20% improvement in fuel efficiency over the A320ceo (“Current Engine Option”.) Jet2.com’s choice of engines – the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G or CFM International LEAP-1A turbofan engine – will be made later, according to Airbus.

“This aircraft is, in our opinion, the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class today – it will give our holiday customers a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience as they travel with us for their well-deserved Jet2 holiday,” claimed Philip Meeson, Jet2.com executive chairman, when the initial order was placed.

Jet2.com offers regional service from several U.K. airports to leisure destinations in Spain. The new aircraft will be configured to seat 232 passengers, with “new seating products” and enlarged overhead baggage bins.
