Micro Vibratory Grinding Process

Deburring, rounding, and polishing small and micro parts on special finishing vibrators, or by means of satellite centrifugal systems on the outer and inner contours achieves surface roughness values of up to Ra 0.025.

MAW Werkzeugmaschinen developed a special micromachining process, together with Polyservice AG, to round and polish small and micro parts on special micro-vibratory finishing vibrators, or by means of satellite centrifugal systems on the outer and inner contours. Surface roughness values of up to Ra 0.025 can be produced.

There are significant differences in micro vibratory finishing compared to classic vibratory finishing or tumbling. In detail, these are the container sizes of the vibratory finishing machines, the dimensions of the abrasives and the kinematic energy that has to act on the parts. Only the perfect interplay of these three components leads to the desired deburring or polishing result.

The container size is important, because small grinding containers also mean less grinding material, compound, and water consumption. Very small grinding wheels with a diameter of less than two millimeters are used in micro vibratory finishing. Polyservice has developed and manufactures a wide range of micro abrasives made of stainless steel, copper or bronze. These dimensionally stable and precise tools deliver consistent quality when grinding, without the abrasive getting stuck in the workpiece.

In machine technology, a distinction is made between micro vibratory grinding processes and centrifugal force processes. The former use vibration to set the abrasive media in motion, while centrifugal methods use rotational forces to do this.

The Polyservice micro vortex vibrators MR10 and D3/D4 are mainly used for deburring and rounding of punched or turned small and micro parts. With these machines it is also possible to machine cross holes, slots, indentations and other contours.

With the satellite centrifugal vibratory grinding machines Polysat1 and Polysat5, the smallest parts are deburred with high grinding power and surfaces are polished to a high gloss. Even very hard materials such as technical ceramics or hard metal can be processed with this technology.
