OMAX Corp. introduced a new waterjet system it developed for manufacturers with large-scale abrasive operations. Four models of the 120X JetMachining Center are offered, in lengths from 13 to 32 ft, each one 10 ft wide with work envelopes for standard-size domestic and international sheet.
In response to what it calls rising demand for large-scale waterjet machining, OMAX developed the 120X for aerospace manufacturers, petroleum industry suppliers, food processing operations, and equipment fabricators. It says the 120X advances technologies it established with its 80X line. “By doubling the traverse speed, the machine ensures the high productivity levels that have come to be associated with abrasive waterjet machining,” according to OMAX.
The 120X worktable is offered with submersible cutting capability as a standard.
This is the second significant introduction of abrasive waterjet machinery by OMAX this year. In June it introduced its MAXIEM line, a series targeted at operations where high-pressure cutting capability and affordability are guiding factors in the choice of equipment.
The 120X features a patent-pending closed-loop, high-pole vector drive package. It also has OMAX’s Intelli-TRAX traction drive, which adds to the system’s accuracy and requires little maintenance.
The 120X is programmed with OMAX’s Intelli-MAX Premium Software on a Windows operating system. OMAX says the software can calculate the velocity of a toolpath at over 2,000 points per inch, to maintain control over the jet motion for fast and precise machining.
Thanks to a USB port on the Y-axis bridge, the machine can be linked to a controller and E-stop/Pause button pendant.
The 120X has the ability to cut with an accuracy of motion up to +/- 0.005 in. Because it does not require tool changes or complex fixturing, setup times are reduced by at least 50%.
