Weighing in at over 7 ton, the Colchester-Harrison TT6 turn-mill from Clausing Industrial Inc. in Kalamazoo, Mich., easily handles robust rigid machining of complex and/ or high-stock-removal components. The 8-axis machine has twin 12-station turrets, two identical 20-hp integrated spindle units, GE Fanuc servo motors and drives, and Fanuc 31i-A CNC that packs a high-speed low-power CNC processor, simple programming and operator prompts

A 45-degree slant bed, Y-axis wedge-angle configuration and 35-mm linear guides on all axes absorb high cutting forces and vibration. Sauter Red Line disc-type turret range provides a rugged housing, ultrahigh-speed spindle indexing and an extended neck for back turning tools. The tool drive has spindle orientation, with the tools individually driven and radial tool mounting.

The TT6’s maximum turning diameter measures 7 in., its turning length 22.2-in., and its Y-axis travel is 3.15 in. With a bore size of 2.52 in., the machine’s spindle accommodates standard three-jaw 7-in.-diameter chucks, while its drawtube capacity runs to 2.2 in. Maximum spindle speed is 6,000 rpm with a torque of 100 Nm, and driven tools run at 5,000 rpm with 5-hp.

Other available machine features include an MBF 1000T bar feeder, gantry system or robot loader, parts catcher, part conveyor and generic bar feeder interfaces.
