FUJI DLFn

A New Twist on Modular Machining

July 9, 2014
Fuji's DLFn modular machining line combines up to 10 machining modules that can be swapped out, rearranged and designed to create whatever 'fully automatic line configuration' a job requires.

In total, Fuji's DLFn can link up to 10 modules that can be combined to form a maximum 14.75 ft (4.5 m) line, occupying less than half the space of a conventional machining line.

Fuji is touting its latest product – the DLFn machining line – as a "reinvention" of modular machining.

In most cases, that kind of statement would be edited out as marketing hyperbole. But it seems like Fuji might be on to something here.

The DLFn combines up to 10 machining modules that can be swapped out, rearranged and designed to create whatever "fully automatic line configuration" the job requires.

And that "fully automatic" bit isn’t much of an exaggeration either.

According to Fuji, once the right configuration is installed, operators simply load raw material in on one side and – after making its way through the turning, measuring, drilling, deburring, cleaning and whatever other operations they have set up – it emerges on the other end as a clean, finished part. That's a neat trick.

DLFn Specs

When we walk about binding together 10 machining modules, one imagines a giant, unwieldy setup, but the DLFn occupies a maximum of just 14.75 feet (or 4.5 meters, if you prefer), which adds up to less than half the space of a conventional machining line.

As far as speed, the DLFn boasts a 5.5 second load/unload time for work removal and operates with an improved takt time over other lines, according to Fuji.

And of course, the DLFn module, conveyance unit and all of its peripheral pieces and parts are operated by Fuji's original and standard UNICORN Controller.
