Emuge Corp. (www.emuge.com) has introduced a series of Miniature Solid Carbide Thread Mills that are designed for easy machining of difficult materials such as stainless steels, titanium, K-monel, hastelloy, and inconel.
The company said its new line is suitable for a variety of applications, including those in the medical, aerospace, defense, and computer industries.
According to the company, the new thread mills eliminate the possibility and consequences of tap breakage.
Thread mills are available in one-flute and three-flute versions, with the latter being ideal for high volume output needs. The new thread mills eliminate the need for hand tapping during full bottom threading applications. Bottom threading can be performed to within one pitch.
The miniature thread mills function with externally supplied coolant and eliminate the need for thread cutting oil, so parts and coolant reservoirs are not contaminated, as can be experienced when using a tapping method in difficult materials.
The new Miniature Solid Carbide Thread Mills include an easily controlled pitch diameter and offer precise thread depth controls, up to two times diameter, so that one tool can be used for both through and blind holes. Overall length of the thread mills is 1.625 in. (41 mm) with a shank diameter of 0.125 in. (3.175 mm). The line includes thread sizes of #0-80, #2-56, #4-40, #5-40, #6-32 and #8-32 and cutting diameters from 0.045 in. (1.143 mm) to 0.124 in. (3.15 mm). Thread length ranges from 0.125 in. (3.175 mm) to 0.328in. (8.33 mm).
