The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) announced that its Alliance Partner, Hardinge Inc. (www.hardinge.com) has agreed to consign a RSSeries turning center machine tool for use in the NCDMM Testing and Development Lab located at its corporate headquarters in Latrobe Pa.

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining will use this high precision machine tool to support its mission to provide state-ofthe- art manufacturing solutions to the Department of Defense and its industrial base.

The Hardinge Super- Precision Turning Center will provide increased advanced technologies by adding the capability to turn components within 0.0002 in., for projects that require high quality and tight tolerances.

The machine also has live tooling capability that allows a component to be milled in the same setup. Hardinge has consigned the machine to the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining Lab for two years.

“The Hardinge Super-Precision RS-Turning Center is the perfect machine for NCDMM’s Testing and Development Lab,” Jeff Ervay, Hardinge product managerturning, said.

“It’s capable of maintaining high precision part tolerance over time so that you have less human intervention to maintain overall part accuracy.
