Tools in space

Jan. 26, 2007

A NASA contractor will once again rely on Bondhus Corp., a tool manufacturer and distributor, for help with a critical repair in space. Bondhus (www.bondhus.com) ProHold tools are being tested for a repair mission to the Hubble Space Telescope because the tools' tips can hold screws, a vital function in space where a floating screw could damage a docking space shuttle. In 2005, astronauts used a Bondhus Stubby tool on a repair to the International Space Station.
All ProHold tools are made with Bondhus' Protanium steel, and the company said this makes them up to 20 percent stronger than most comparable tools. The Bondhus tools also feature the company's special ProGuard finish for five times more corrosion protection when compared with other tool finishes.
