Florida State Grants Will Lead to Nearly 200 Jobs

Florida will provide grants totaling $188,633 to help to train nearly 200 new manufacturing employees over the next two years according to the Tallahassee/Leon County Economic Development Council.
A $124,320 grant to train 122 new, full-time employees will be given to General Dynamics Land Systems, Inc. (www.gdls.com), a subsidiary of General Dynamics Corporation that designs, manufactures and supports land and amphibious combat systems for the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps and allied nations.
A $64,313 grant to train 63 new, full-time employees will go to Global CNC Solutions (www.globalsolutions.com), a precision machine shop in Tallahassee, Florida. David Denton, president and CEO of Global CNC Solutions, said 30 of the new trainees will start immediately.
The trainees will earn $10 per hour to start and the pay scale will rise to $15 to $18 after training is complete.
Both grants are quick-response training grants from the State of Florida distributed through Enterprise Florida (www.eflorida.com), Florida’s public-private partnership for economic development. The grants come from a fund created by Florida’s legislature to provide for training designed to meet the specific needs of new or expanding employers.
