Trumpf Inc., the North American subsidiary of Germany-based TRUMPF GmbH +Co. KG, plans to invest close to $20 million in a new 64,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at its Farmington, Conn. Industrial park campus.
The new facility will double the space Trumpf is currently using to develop and manufacture laser cutters and welders in the United States, and Trumpf plans to consolidate all production, research and development and other support services related to laser tools in that facility.
Laser machine tools are the fastest-growing segment of Trumpf’s business and the new facility is expected to help Trumpf stay competitive in the global laser cutting tools market.
If Trumpf receives local zoning approval to add a fourth building to its 70-acre campus, it expects to begin construction in November and be completed in 12 to 14 months. The new building is expected to resemble the three existing buildings.
Trumpf started its North American operations in Farmington with a handful of employees in 1969 and today employs 543 people at that facility.
