Introduced at Eastec 2005 by Charmilles, Lincolnshire, Ill., the Robofil 2050TW dual-wire EDM works with two spools of wire and delivers both high accuracy and productivity in one package. To ensure high productivity levels, the 2050TW accepts wire diameters ranging from 0.00078 to 0.013 in. It also incorporates full automation of the wires' complete operational sequence.
Capable of handling workpiece dimensions up to 39.4 19.310.2 in. and a maximum workpiece weight of 1,100 lb, the Robofil 2050TW maintains ample travel distance in the X, Y, and Z axes of 12.59, 8.66, and 6.29 in., respectively, while the U and V axes maintain 1.89 in. Giving special consideration to accuracy, Charmilles ensures measurement resolution of 0.000002 in. High-precision glass scales measure increments down to 0.05 µ and, according to the company, thermo-stabilization of the entire machine eliminates inaccuracy caused by thermal instability.
In addition, the Robofil 2050TW features a fully digital generator that reportedly delivers a surface finish as fine as Ra 0.05 µ in carbide along with total respect of surface integrity, whatever the material machined.
A mobile console provides easy accessibility and lets operators monitor the machine close to the work area. Furthermore, the implementation of Windows XP and Twin Wire software technology into the controls create an intuitive interface to enhance productivity and encourage the integration of automation.
For larger parts, the company has also introduced the Robofil 6050TW. While this machine offers all the advantages of the 2050TW, it is capable of machining parts up to 49.61 24.02 14.17 in. and weighing up to 1,765 lb.
