Reportedly, the first true client/server environment for shop-floor machine tool communications, e-DNC Explorer software from Greco Systems allows for multiple computers with access to multiple communication servers or server hubs.

The software runs under Microsoft Windows and is compatible with Greco's e-DNC Hub, CNC Station, CNC Minifile, and MTIC BTR. Users can install any number of copies of e-DNC Explorer under one license agreement, and a license is unnecessary when running in conjunction with e-DNC Hub.

Also part of Greco's product offerings is Embedded e-DNC Hub, which connects machine tools to local-area networks or the Internet for uploading or downloading part programs. The technology has no moving parts (hard drives, fans, and so forth), and machine tool protocols execute locally for maximum efficiency in working with machine tool controls. An enhanced buffering technique, internal to the hub, prevents data starvation to critical machines during drip-feed operations.
