GM Raising HD Pickup Output
General Motors will add a sixth day of production to its work-week at the Flint (Mich.) Assembly plant in June. It aims to increase its current production rate for 2500 and 3500 series heavy-duty pickup trucks. Currently the plant is completing an estimated 1,100 vehicles per day.
The production increase was reported first by the Wall Street Journal.
GM sold 206,184 Silverado HD (2500 HD and 3500 HD) and 118,066 GMC Sierra HD vehicles in the U.S. during 2025.
“General Motors is making strategic adjustments to Flint Assembly’s production schedule to align with strong customer demand,” according to a GM spokesman.
The automaker indicated demand for those vehicles, the internal-combustion engine Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, has not been impacted by higher fuel costs since the launch of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iranian missile capabilities and military infrastructure.
The increase will not result in higher employment at GM’s longest-running assembly plant. Approximately 4,200 workers will be eligible for overtime pay when working the additional shift.
Earlier this month General Motors reported that Flint Assembly completed its 16-millionth vehicle since it started production in 1947, a Chevy Silverado HD.
