Ford Delivers Flexible Fuel/Plug-In Vehicle to DOE
Ford Motor Company delivered the first-ever flexible fuel capable plug-in hybrid SUV to the U.S. Department of Energy. The Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid, which runs on gasoline or E85, is part of a demonstration fleet Ford is developing in a partnership with Southern California Edison and the Electric Power Research Institute. Advanced testing on the vehicles is underway in California. Delphi Gets U.S. For Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Delphi Corporation announced that it has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to lead an industry-government team to develop the next generation propulsion inverter for hybrid vehicles. The new smaller inverter is lower cost and will be used on the next generation high-efficiency hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and next generation "plug-in" hybrids (PHEVs). In the longer-term, the inverter will be used for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). Read More

Alcoa Of Australia Declares Force Majeure
As a result of an explosion at Apache Energy's Varanus Island facility, and the disruption of gas supply to its Western Australia facilities, Alcoa of Australia today notified its customers that it was declaring force majeure under its alumina supply contracts. Read More

Boeing Finalizes Acquisition Of Global Aeronautica Closes
Boeing said it has finalized the agreement to acquire Vought Aircraft Industries' interest in Global Aeronautica, LLC, a South Carolina fuselage sub-assembly facility for Boeing's newest airplane, the 787 Dreamliner. With the completion of this transaction, Global Aeronautica is now a 50-50 joint venture between The Boeing Company and Alenia North America, a subsidiary of Italy's Alenia Aeronautica -- a Finmeccanica company. General Dynamics NASSCO Gets $100 Million Contract For 12th Ammunition Ship
General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has been awarded a $100 million contract from the U.S. Navy to purchase long-lead materials for the construction of a twelfth T-AKE dry cargo-ammunition ship. NASSCO already is under contract to construct 11 T-AKE ships at its shipyard. Read More

3M said it has agreed to acquire TOP-Service fr Lingualtechnik GmbH, a Germany-based orthodontic technology and services company offering the novel Incognito brand system, a digital lingual orthodontic solution. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Read More
