The American Welding Society (AWS), Miami, has released 13 new Standard Welding Procedure Specifications (SWPS). The new SWPSs outline the essential variables for welding steel in thicknesses of 18 through 10 gauge, using semiautomatic gas metal arc welding, shielded-metal-arc welding, or manual gas-tungsten welding.

Welders can learn the operating conditions necessary to fabricate the weldment. The SWPSs address base and filler-metal specifications, joint designs for groove and fillet welds, and other requirements to implement the SWPS. These revised SWPSs supersede previously published standards with the same designations. Each specification is 12 pages.
