Coolant paths in Techniks Inc.'s new toolholders can be switched using two setscrews.

Techniks Inc. (www.techniksusa.com) developed a new line of toolholders that provide machinists the ability to switch coolant paths from coolant-thru-spindle to DIN style coolant by removing two setscrews.

The company says the switching feature on its CoolFlex toolholders can save thousands of dollars compared to the cost of tooling both coolant-thru and DIN coolant spindles.

The CoolFlex holders are available for CAT40 and CAT50 spindles, in ER collet chucks (shown) and end mill holder styles. The collet chucks are available in sizes from ER16 to ER40 and are balanced to 18,000 rpm. The end mill holder styles range from I.D. 0.25 in. to I.D. 1.25 in., and are balanced to 10,000 rpm.

The CoolFlex holders are factory set for coolant-thruspindle applications and can be changed to DIN style by the user. CoolFlex collet chucks come with the company's exclusive "Power Coat" nut that the Techniks says increases clamping power on the tool shank by as much as 75 percent.

Each CoolFLEX holder comes with a lab certification documenting total indicator reading runout (TIR), accuracy and balance.
