Eliminate chlorine from machining Hybrid fluids for exotic alloys, titanium and hard metals, high-silicon aluminum alloys

Cimcool Fluid Technology recently introduced a new lubricant targeted machining and grinding operations for hard metals. These new Cimtech synthetic fluids are based on synergistic lubricant blends that the developer indicated would provide significant increases in productivity without resorting to chlorine or other high levels of extreme pressure additives. Cimcool fluids also achieve notable cost reductions thanks to the higher production rates that they can help to achieve.

Higher levels of production and lower cost-per-part, coupled with environmentally responsible fluids, will give machining operations significant competitive advantages, Cimcool indicated. With their specific hybrid blends, including patented Milacron lubricants, Cimcool customers with heavy-duty performance requirements may expect to eliminate chlorine from their operations.

“These fluids work best when really pushed to the limit,” according to Cimcool’s automotive product manger Tina Hunter. “The tougher the operation, the better results we see. The performance of these fluids is significantly better. They have outperformed some popular heavy-duty, sulfo-chlorinated oils by up to 300%.”

The developer’s new hybrid fluid products include:

Cimtech 627. This is a water-based synthetic fluid for use in heavy-duty machining and grinding of exotic alloys. It performs best at high speeds and feeds where conventional fluids fail typically fail, according to Cimcool. With has better lubricity than sulfo-chlorinated soluble oils, Cimtech 627 reportedly offers up to 65% savings compared to comparable conventional fluids.

Cimtech 609-E. This water-based fluid exhibits reduced chatter and decreased wheel loading, according to Cimcool, and “excellent” finish and more machine uptime. Cimtech 609 E is a product for use in hard-metal valve grinding and will provide higher productivity compared to competitive soluble oils. “Customer-documented results show a 52% lower cost per part,” according to Cimcool.

Cimtech 610. This patented blend of Milacron Synthetic Lubricants (MSL) makes it very well suited for titanium and other hard metals. Significantly lower cutting forces provide tool savings up to 200%, the developer stated, making this one of its best fluids for ferrous metal machining. This fluid performs best at high speeds and feeds, it said, where conventional fluids fail and does not contain chlorine, sulfur, or phosphorus. It can be used on aluminum alloys, too.

Cimtech 612NF. Finally, this water-based synthetic is Cimcool best offering for machining high-silicon aluminum alloys, and achieves superior machining and tapping capabilities. Dramatically lower cutting forces will improve tool life, it said, and finish even in operations with extreme speeds and feeds. It may be used on some ferrous grinding and machining applications. And, it contains no contain chlorine, sulfur, or phosphorus.
