China Eastern Airlines commits to buy 777s to meet expansion plans

Boeing Commercial Airplanes will deliver 20 of its 777-300ER (Extended Range) jets to China Eastern Airlines, which is expanding its carrying capacity to match growing demand on its China and the Asia-Pacific routes. The new jets would be delivered between 2014 but 2018, but the order is still awaiting approval from Chinese government authorities.

The Boeing 777 is a twin-engine, wide-body aircraft, and the 777-300ER is a model specially fitted for long-range service — up to 7,930 nautical miles, according to Boeing. It carries up to 365 passengers, depending on the cabin configuration.

Boeing noted it has incorporated several performance enhancements for the 777-300ER design, to extend its range and payload capabilities. It said these changes included engine efficiency improvements and design changes that reduce drag and airplane weight.

"China Eastern Airlines is a long-term, valued customer of The Boeing Co.,” stated Ihssane Mounir, Boeing Commercial Airplanes v.p.-sales for Greater China and Korea. "This additional commitment from one of the largest airlines in the world is a testament to the benefits the 777-300ER brings to the airline and its passengers."
