Boeing Defense Building New Modernization/Support HQ

July 30, 2015
New development will house engineering labs, R&D, maintenance to serve multiple defense products Expanding campus in OKC Engineering and R&D Support services, modernization

Boeing Defense, Space & Security broke ground for 290,000-sq.ft operation in Oklahoma City, the third major structure of its campus there, which will house engineering and R&D labs when it opens next summer. Some support staff also will be included in the approximately 800 working there after it opens next spring.

More than that, Global Services & Support president Leanne Caret announced that the business’s Aircraft Modernization and Sustainment (AM&S) division would relocate to Oklahoma City in coming months, meaning approximately a dozen senior management positions for the location.

“We see a bright horizon for the aircraft sustainment business because of the highly trained and motivated workforce we have in Oklahoma City,” stated Caret. “Expanding our presence and bringing AM&S headquarters here continues a trend of combining Oklahoma’s home-grown talent with the best of the enterprise to support some of our customers’ most critical missions.”

Last October Boeing announce plans to consolidate most the services and support-related activities for Boeing Defense, Space & Security at two sites, in Oklahoma City and St. Louis. Most of the new positions created at those two locations would be in place of jobs supporting operations then located in Washington State.

Aircraft Modernization & Sustainment supports and provides modernization services for U.S. defense aircraft and those of coalition partners, including lift, executive transport, airborne refueling, airborne command and control, and global strike capabilities aircraft. This includes commercial-derivative aircraft, airborne early warning and control platforms, C-17 Globemaster III maintenance, tanker maintenance and support, and bomber/weapons modernization and logistics.
