Partners Prep “Design to Manufacturing” Service for Gearmaking

Fully integrated workflow System design/analysis software Bevel gear design and manufacturing program

Gleason Corporation, a gear manufacturing group, is forming a worldwide, “strategic partnership” with Smart Manufacturing Technology (SMT), which develops and supplies tools and expertise for designing and developing transmissions and systems.  Working together, they will supply gear manufacturers around the world with a “design-to-manufacturing system” that integrates SMT’s system design and analysis software (MASTA) with Gleason’s software for bevel gear design and manufacturing (CAGE).

The new partners said gear manufacturers would benefit from a fully integrated workflow when designing powertrains, gearboxes, transmissions and more.  The first products of their cooperation will be available in the first half of 2013.

Gleason is headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., and has manufacturing there and in Rockford, Ill.; Dayton, Ohio; Munich and Ludwigsburg, Germany; Studen, Switzerland; Bangalore; India, and Suzhou, China. Its sales and service offices are across North and South America, Europe, and in Asia.

SMT is headquartered in Nottingham, England, and has automotive design and engineering offices in Syracuse, N.Y., a wind turbine gearbox design center in São João da Madeira, Portugal, and sales, project management, technical support and engineering support offices in Beijing and Shanghai, China, and Goyang City, South Korea.

“We have great respect for SMT’s capabilities and are excited about the integration of MASTA and CAGE, and providing designers and manufacturers of gears and power transmission drives with exciting new opportunities to enhance their processes and products,” stated John J. Perrotti, Gleason president and CEO. “This is the first step in our partnership with SMT and we look forward to exploring other areas of mutual cooperation.”

David Beedan, operations director of Smart Manufacturing Technology, added: “Gleason Corporation has a distinguished history as the world leader in gear technology and we are delighted to be entering into this partnership to enhance the capabilities of both CAGE and MASTA to provide the user with a fully integrated design-to-manufacturing solution.“
