Crane builder expands machine tool service to Western Hemisphere

Konecranes, a Finland-based builder of cranes, lifts, and other industrial handling products and services, has acquired Machine Tool Solutions Unlimited for an unreported price. It’s the first U.S. acquisition for Konecranes’ MTS business, which is concentrated in Scandinavia and the U.K.

Machine Tool Solutions will expand Konecranes MTS into North, Central and South America.

Machine Tool Solutions Unlimited, founded in Cincinnati in 2003, provides machine tool rebuilding services, control retrofits, preventive maintenance, calibration, and repair services. Annual net sales for 2008 were approximately $5.2 million. Company founder Harold Schoch will remain with the organization.

“This is a technically challenging market with strong growth potential in the United States,” stated Konecranes regional general manager Tom Kurtz. “Combining the extensive footprint of Konecranes with the skills and capabilities of Machine Tool Solutions Unlimited we are confident that our expanded service offering will be appealing to existing and new customers alike.”
