GFs High Dynamics technology achieves 1G acceleration rates
GF AgieCharmilles' HPM 800U HD delivers 1G machine acceleration rates, reducing non-cut times significantly.

Designed for producing tools, molds, and high-quality parts, the GF AgieCharmilles Mikron HPM 800U HD 5-axis high-performance machining center is designed with the machine builder’s High Dynamics (HD) technology, which it said delivers 1G machine acceleration rates to increase precision-part processing time and reduce non-cut time significantly.

GF AgieCharmilles designs and builds laser ablation centers, wire EDM, CNC and manual diesinking systems, and high-speed/high-performance and 5-axis CNC milling machines.

The developer pairs the HD technology of the HPM 800U HD with a Step-Tec 20,000-rpm HSK-A63 in-line spindle. This combination generates 84 Nm (63.7 ft-lbs) of torque at 4,450 rpm for high metal removal rates, and also provides the fast spindle speeds necessary to produce superior part surface finishes.

In addition, the spindle is fitted with oil-lubricated ceramic hybrid bearings and is vector-controlled, which makes it possible for operators to perform thread cutting without using a compensating chuck. A fast, 30-tool automatic tool changer keeps the spindle supplied with tools and reduces non-cut times further. GF AgieCharmilles also offers tool-changer capacities up 120 positions.

As a gantry portal-type design machine, the HPM 800U HD incorporates direct drives in the rotating and swiveling axes of its table, which clamps securely for precise workpiece positioning. The machine’s design offers a large work envelope and ample unrestricted workpiece access, even with the fully automated pallet version of the machine that can be equipped with a 2,7,9, or 12-pallet changer.

For maximum maneuverability around various part sizes and shapes, the HPM 800U HD provides 31.5 in. (800 mm) of travel in the X and Y axes, and 21.6 in, (550 mm) of clearance between its table surface and spindle nose in the Z-axis. The machine’s table surface measures 31.5 × 23.6 in. (800 × 599 mm) and accommodates 5-axis workpieces weighing as much as 1,250 lbs (500 kg).
