Sandvik Coromant Adds New Milling Capabilities

Cutting tool manufacturer Sandvik Coromant reports several expansions to its milling product lines, including new tool diameters and insert grades and geometries. The new tools will be available in October 2009.
New tool diameters for the CoroMill 490 system will range from 0.787 to 4.921 in., and new insert geometries have been introduced in the GC2030, GC2040 and GC1030 grades. Sandvik indicates that the new inserts mean that CoroMill 490 will perform better for stainless steel machining. The series currently offers high precision, flexible milling of steel, hardened steel, and cast iron.

A 45-degree face mill, CoroMill 345 now features a full range of inserts for cast iron machining, a new “mirror-finishing” geometry for steel, and cylindrical and Weldon shank cutters. CoroMill 345 is a high-performance, light-cutting product line in diameters from 1.5 to 10 in. that uses inserts with eight cutting edges.

The CoroMill 316 is available now in the 3/8- to 0.984-in. diameter range. An extended range of carbide milling heads adds new chamfering radius and larger diameter corner-radius end mills, and new carbide shanks will complement the available steel shanks. CoroMill 316 is based on CoroMill Plura geometries, and use the latest PVD grade technology to achieve the rigidity needed for full-slot roughing and the accuracy needed for precision finishing operations.
