BIG Daishowa has developed a mirror-finish cutter that is designed to cut aluminum surfaces to Ra levels of 0.06 microns (0.0000024 in.) using polycrystalline diamond (PCD) inserts.

The cutter is made with a proprietary fine adjustment system that keeps cutting edges of the inserts at the same height to provide that level of accuracy.

The company said this cutter uses a unique presetter to ensure that the height of the cutting edges are correct, and that it requires about 15 seconds to set up.

This tool also was introduced at JIMTOF 2008 in Tokyo.
