The XR 600 5AX machining center.

Hardinge built its new XR 600 5AX 5-axis machining center, the first in a series of three machines, on a bridge, or portal, frame as opposed to a C frame. This is a first for a machine with a 2-axis table, the company said. The bridge frame delivers precision, accuracy and process stability because the machine’s spindle does not hang out. And, no matter what size part is on its table, the machine moves a constantly known mass. Machine applications include both 5-face and simultaneous 5-axis machining.
