Fagmol, a mold-tool manufacturer for the toy industry of Sao Paulo, Brazil, relies on advanced CNC machinery, intensive staff training, and state-ofthe-art software to offer complete product-development services from the conceptual design of a new toy through to molding trials. The company's CAD/CAM software of choice is Delcam's Power Solution.

"We develop new designs by manual modeling or with Delcam's PowerShape hybrid modeler. After the design stage, we manufacture molds using PowerShape and PowerMill CAM systems and then run trials for machines with up to 150 ton of clamping force," says Antonio Carlos Fagionato, managing director at Fagmol. He goes on to say that some current projects with rigorous technical requirements and short lead times would have been impossible without the Delcam software.

According to Alexandre Tadeu Fagionato, production manager at Fagmol, the company was the first moldmaker in Brazil to use the PC-based version of Delcam's software in 1996. Initially, productivity dropped after installing CNC equipment and its first CAD/CAM seat.

"The cultural impact was enormous, and it changed our way of thinking," he explains. "But had we not made those investments, the company would probably not be in business today." In 2003, it produced approximately 40 molds, some of which weighed up to six ton.
