UGS PLM Solutions is adding new view and markupcapabilities for Insight Connect, Solid Edge's design-management client. Insight Connect establishes a robust managed environment, making collaboration easily available to consumers of data throughout an enterprise, while ensuring current and accurate data.
Insight Connect provides design-management functions like revision management, document lifecycle management, where-used searches, viewing, dynamic sectioning, measurement, and mark-up. In addition, it extends its design-review capabilities by allowing 2D and 3D viewing of multiple file types, including documents in Solid Edge, Unigraphics, Parasolid, DirectModel, XML, MicroStation, AutoCAD, CGM metafile, CoCreate ME 10, and STL.
A new packaged collaboration file (.PCF) lets Insight Connect share multiple documents in a collaborative environment, while ensuring that users never work with outdated information. Designed to package multiple documents from different sources into a single file, .PCF contains the information needed for communication. Visualization data, including all required parts, assemblies, drawings, and other non-CAD documents relevant for a particular purpose can be moved as one file from pre-established workflow folders or sent via email to anyone needing to review the information. The files can be viewed directly using a free viewer (downloaded from the Solid Edge website), or teams can use Insight Connect's review, measure, and markup capabilities to add comments. Rather than the cut-and-run approach of less-sophisticated applications, says the software developer, .PCF retains original links to CAD documents in the Insight database and contains the information to execute and manage any changes resulting from the collaborative process.
