FlashCNC and FlashMotion are new embedded-control systems for machine builders and customers needing to minimize cabinet space, reduce integration time, simplify machine wiring, and cut costs. The two embedded hardware platforms are from Manufacturing Data Systems Inc. (MDSI) for its WinMotion and OpenCNC products. Both FlashCNC and FlashMotion offer Windows XP embedded, choice of Flash memory or hard drive, 15-in. color LCD touch-screen, and Yaskawa Mechatrolink or Sercos digital-drive interface with dual-channel Ethernet for network and I/O connectivity.

"We have previewed these packages to several machine tool builders and integrators in the general motion and CNC industry," says Michael Mason, managing director at MDSI. "Particularly, they were impressed with the reduced cabling and shortened integration time the solutions offer."
