Oshkosh Corp.’s Defense division has received two orders from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) to deliver nearly 1,900 new and recapitalized severe-duty Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A4 vehicles, and more than 530 Palletized Load System (PLS) trailers. The total value of the orders is roughly $600 million, Oshkosh released.
HEMTT deliveries begin this month and will continue through September 2011. PLS trailer production will start in June 2011 and continue through October 2011.
The HEMTT A4 is called “the backbone of the Army’s logistics and resupply fleet.” The new orders extend a production series that Oshkosh has been conducting over 30 years.
“The production of these next-generation vehicles and support trailers, as well as the recapitalization of existing HEMTTs to like-new condition, signifies the fleet will continue to support and protect Warfighters for decades to come,” stated Oshkosh president and COO Charlie Szews.
Oshkosh Defense remanufacturing and recapitalization services strip down the Army’s heavily used vehicles and completely rebuild them to “like-new condition,” upgrading them to the new A4 configuration. For the Oshkosh HEMTT A4, upgrades include a more powerful drivetrain; improved suspension; a fully air-conditioned and armor-ready cab; and other structural changes to make in-the-field installation of add-on armor quicker and easier.
Rebuilt vehicles are reset to zero miles and zero hours. Oshkosh claims these vehicles “offer a significant cost savings” versus to new models.
