EnPro Industries reports it has purchased the assets of steel brake shoe manufacturer Rome Tool and Die Inc. for an undisclosed price. Rome Tool and Die supplies brake shoes to North American heavy-duty truck manufacturers, and will be organized as part of EnPro’s brake products group, Stemco.
Rome Tool and Die employs about 110 people at its headquarters and manufacturing plant in Rome, Ga.
"Rome Tool and Die is an important and attractive addition to Stemco," stated EnPro president and CEO Steve Macadam. "The business is the leading supplier of new brake shoes to the aftermarket in the United States. Stemco, which has the best sales and product training model in the industry, will now be able to combine brake shoes with Stemco Duroline brake pads to offer a completely lined brake shoe kit that will provide important performance and safety benefits to fleet operators."
In just over a year, Stemco has added friction products, automatic brake adjusters, and brake shoes to its line-up. It also added suspension system components in 2008. EnPro indicates that Stemco expects more than 35% of its 2011 sales to come from product lines it has added since 2008.
