General Motors Corp. said it is taking further steps to adapt its business to rapidly changing market conditions, marked by the weak U.S. economy, record high fuel prices, shifts in consumer vehicle preferences, and the lowest U.S. industry sales volumes in a decade. Read More
| Alcoa said its Alcoa Electrical and Electronic Systems (AEES) business has initiated a restructuring of its Honduran and Mexican operations serving the North American auto market as a result of continued market softness. In total, the workforce reduction across the Honduran and Mexican operations will impact approximately 1,240 jobs as AEES adjusts capacity to economic and structural changes in the North America light truck and SUV market demand. | Toyota said it plans to build its Prius models at a plant under construction in Blue Springs, Miss. beginning in late 2010. Prius, will join the Camry Hybrid as the second Toyota hybrid built in North America. Meanwhile, Toyota will move production of its mid-sized SUV to Princeton, Ind., beginning in Fall 2009, and consolidate production of its full-size pick-up truck at its San Antonio plant in Spring 2009. In addition, Toyota will temporarily suspend Tundra and Sequoia production beginning August 8 due to the declining overall market for full size trucks and SUVs. Read More
| Harley-Davidson, Inc. said it plans to purchase the Italian motorcycle maker MV Agusta Group (MVAG). Harley-Davidson will acquire 100 percent of MV Agusta Group shares for total consideration of approximately 70 million euros ($109 million), which includes the satisfaction of existing bank debt for approximately 45 million euros ($70 million). | Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation has been selected by Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron company, as the fuel systems supplier for the new, large cabin, intercontinental Model 850 Citation Columbus business jet. The value of the program to Eaton is estimated at approximately $100 million over 20 years. According to Cessna, the first flight is scheduled for 2011. Read More
| Goodrich Corporation has received an expanded landing gear overhaul service agreement from Continental Airlines to cover virtually every model in the airline's Boeing aircraft fleet. The expanded portion of the agreement is expected to generate $49 million in revenue over five years. Read More
| The Government of Canada has awarded a contract valued at $374 million (US $367 million) to General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada for a full range of lifecycle support services for the Canadian Forces fleet of Wheeled Light Armoured Vehicles.
